Valentino Rossi rides the 1198SP!

Ducati.com reports that Valentino Rossi did a quick test at Misano on a specially prepared 1198SP. The purpose of the test was to decide how healthy Rossi was after surgery to his right shoulder. The surgery was to repair damage which happened last year during motocross training.

The 1198SP appears to be prepared for racing using a mix of race parts and parts available through the Ducati accessory catalog. The wheels appear to be 17″ Marchesini 10Y possibly with Superstock slicks on them. MotoGP and Superbikes usually use 16 or 16.5″ wheels.

Seeing Rossi on a Ducati Superbike is surely going to inspire some replicas. I’m hoping Ducati ends up making their own very soon! I can’t think of another MotoGP or 500cc champion who has ridden a Ducati Superbike.

Rossi reported that he enjoyed riding this “historic” motorcycle.
